Ever heard of a personality test called MBTI? Myers-Briggs Type Indicator. I'm a huge fan. Many people are wary of any kind of test that tries to "classify" them - put them in a metaphorical box, per se. But I don't know, this one, it has something different...it actually works. Why care about classifying your personality, though? I mean, really. You are the way you are, and you're not going to be any different just because a personality classification system says you "fit". Well...
I really started to be interested in personality differences when I moved in with roommates a couple of years ago. All of a sudden, it wasn't just a 'neat' personality test that made me feel good knowing that I was 'normal' according to a certain classification system. It became a tool for helping me understand, get along with, and modify my actions and reactions to best survive/thrive with the people I lived with.
As I lived with these friends, I grew my own self-awareness. I became aware of my preferences in relating to others. I ticked off some people without even realizing I was doing anything hurtful. I was hurt as I interpreted other people's actions in the wrong way. I made plans and had them shattered. I got caught off guard. I spent a lot of time alone, a lot of time hanging out, and in the end have come out a stronger, more deliberate person, more aware of friendships as a process to be worked at and improved.
Keep in mind that this personality thing...it is a spectrum thing. Usually, you'll find yourself in a happy medium between each of the four sets of preferences.
The following four posts will explain the four preferences of MBTI personality and might give you a glimpse into me...and the things I do that either drive you crazy or that you love about me...
