How can I explain the most serene and beautiful living room in the whole world (literally)?
Some time soon, I will take a picture of it, and only then will you be able to fully understand the beauty of being surrounded by impatiens, sunflowers, flowering trees, bamboo poles, and a thatched roof whilst lounging on a wide couch and either tip-tapping away on your laptop, eating a homemade dinner, or catching the evening news.
Yes, it is here, in Kadugli, that I think I have found a most special living room - called "the rakuba".
I would say most things in life revolve around the rakuba here in Kadugli for our team. Whether it's our morning team time together before work begins. Or whether it's a meeting during work hours with our staff. Or it may be relaxing and watching the tour de France after the end of the work day at 5pm. And then dinner is served here come 7pm. And Facebook or a game might be the evening entertainment for any of us that still find ourselves in the rakuba after dark. Tea is served sometime after 8pm in the rakuba. (I do enjoy a cup of tea in the evening...although, I wonder if a steaming hot drink is the most intelligent thing to have in this unbelievably hot and humid weather!) Stories are shared amongst us, mosquitoes are swatted, and life in general seems simple and peaceful whilst under the protection of our little thatched living room.
Tonight, I am overly interested by two of my favorite inhabitants of the Rakuba...two little stout, wide, short, gecko-lizard-things. We share this space with lots of lizards and birds (and a couple of kittens seem to stray in here every few nights as well)...but the two most commonly-seen friends are Martin and Louella. Tonight, they have been on a hunting trip extravaganza and have caught moth after moth after moth and mosquito after mosquito...yay geckos!! From what I can tell, one of them (Martin) prefers moths while Louella tends to go for the smaller prey.
The birds are sleeping now, but during the bright daytime hours and into the early evening, these very tiny (and beautiful) birds hop all over the green tree branches snaking their way into our living room and completely liven up the place.
This rakuba sure goes a long way in making me feel at one with nature :)
