The Action Plan

One activity that I’ve carried out at the district, with members of the core District Planning and Coordinating Unit (DPCU) and with members of the District Water and Sanitation Team (DWST), is an action plan workshop. The action plan workshop was a workshop I facilitated with three main objectives.
1) To figure out current watsan activities of the DWST and the DPCU and to figure out where they saw areas for improvement in their skills and activities.
2) To put the focus of watsan activities on the beneficiary, instead of on the funding donors.
3) To help me determine work streams that I can carry out for the remainder of my work placement here.
For two and a half hours, we hashed through various activities, some extremely tedious, to identify challenges of the current system, a vision for the ideal working situation, and the priorities for growth of the team members.
I just wanted to give a brief outline of some of the initial areas that I believe I’ll be focusing on for the remainder of the summer. This will just be an introduction for further blogs regarding more details of how my capacity building attempts are going…
There are three main areas that I think I want to focus on…
1) Communication skills
2) Development of standardized monitoring indicators
3) Computer training and report formatting
I know that doesn’t give a lot of detail, but I’ll try to update more as time goes on and I get to work more and more with my partner on some different skills!
